In Greenland, we are in the early stages of investigating the potential for oil exploration in Baffin Bay. We are working to integrate scientific expertise and local knowledge into the design of a possible exploration project. For example, we are collecting information on marine mammals with local observers to better understand the wildlife in the area to help us minimise potential impact. We have begun consultations with the local community. In 2011, we held a series of public meetings and met with community leaders to discuss the benefits and impacts of the project. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, Baffin Bay holds an estimated 17 billion barrels of oil equivalent.
