Shell Foundation is a UK-registered charity that applies business thinking to global development challenges such as job creation, access to energy and urban mobility. Shell Foundation works with partners to create social enterprises that deliver societal and environmental benefits on a global scale – providing business support, grant funding and market links to help them grow and achieve financial independence.
For example, Shell Foundation co-founded GroFin to provide a range of business skills, flexible funding and commercial links to help entrepreneurs in Africa expand their businesses. More than 16,000 jobs have been created and sustained in Africa since 2004. In 2013, Shell Foundation assisted GroFin’s expansion into the Middle East with the launch of Nomou, a regional initiative that offers core support to small and medium enterprises in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan and Oman.
Shell Foundation was set up in 2000 with Shell providing a $250 million endowment and further donations of $190 million to the end of 2013.
